A Few Goods Finds!

We were going to have a family yard sale this past weekend, but it is just too hot. It is supposed to be 103 today and in the 100's all this week. Instead, we hit the thrifts and re-filled our booth instead. Here are my finds from this weekend: I found this Anchor Hocking canister jar for $1.15. There is a set of three listed on Ebay for $89.99. I may just have to look for the other two and complete the set! I found this avocado Anchor Hocking Milano pitcher for $2.15 at the Goodwill. I like to look for the glasses and sell them in my booth as a set. They sell better that way. While at the Goodwill looking at the glassware, I noticed a box mixed in with the glasses. Being naturally curious, I opened the box and this Breakfast At Tiffany's mug was in it. Brand new in the box for .50 cents. I was very excited to find this, as I love that movie. Yeah, I'm keeping it. I found these four bags of metal bead garland for $1.15 per bag. We decorate our booth at Christmas including a tree, and these will look good on our tree. I like to pick up vintage looking Christmas tins, such as this one that I found for .50 cents. I give cookies away in them and also have them on my kitchen counter at Christmas filled with our holiday goodies. I found this cobalt egg cup for .99 cents at the Goodwill. These four yellow Fiesta berry bowls were also found at the Goodwill for .50 cents each. This Fire King saucer was .50 cents. The gold rim on it looked really good, so I couldn't pass it up. Hallmark ornaments sell well in our booth during the Christmas sale at the antique mall, so I picked this one up for $1.15. It is in wonderful shape, and still in the box. I almost always buy Pyrex when I see it. This casserole was $3.15 at the Goodwill. I collect anthropomorphic kitchen items, and this is the first time in all the years I have been junking that I have ever found one of these tea bag holders at a thrift store. She was only $1.15! I had a holder to put her in as I pick those up when I find them. These boxes of Shiny Brites were only $1.35 per box. I think these are newer Shiny Brites, but I didn't care because they already have that vintage mercury glass ornament patina to them. Now that I have started filling my hutch, I had to show it off. I bought this hutch at an estate sale in Indiana for $80 three years ago. I stashed it in my Grandmothers basement for two years because at the time I didn't have a way to get it back to Texas. Last August, I was able to have a hitch put on my Jeep and rented a trailer to bring it back. I was storing it in my garage until I could put a fresh coat of paint on it. A few months ago out of the blue I cleaned it up, changed out the silver metal knobs and added green glass knobs that I already had, and brought it into the house without painting it. It looks just fine without fresh paint and I'm filling it up with treasures. Below are the items inside: That's all I have for this week! Inspired By My Blog Friends!

I don't have the beautiful yard filled with flowers like some of my blog friends, but I'm getting inspired and starting to work on my yard more and plant some things. I've always had a green thumb, but lost interest in growing plants after my son was born. He's 13 now, and I'm starting to have more time to devote to doing things I enjoy. I'll start with my front porch. In Texas, you have alot of ranch style homes with little or no porches. Since I had a small area to work with, I decided to add a pop of color with these chairs. They are reproductions, but I still love them. Go red! I have this garden angel in the front yard, in a corner that doesn't get alot of sun. I'm thinking about surrounding her with hydrangeas. I found her at Big Lots. I found this great Jim Shore planter at Lowe's for $16.00, a good price for a Jim Shore item. It's about 10" tall. On to the back yard! This is my trumpet vine along my back fence with my Texas shaped birdbath. My 83 year old grandmother gave me these hens & chicks when I was there in March. She planted them in an old boot. They are huge! I found this 46" trellis at the Goodwill on the way home from work yesterday. It was marked $15.00 and they were having half price day, so I got this for $7.50! It's already crusty and rusty, and it's going in the back yard. I need to figure out a drought tolerant vine to use it with. The find of my life!

I knew I wouldn't be able to go junking this weekend because we are having a yard sale to get rid of the leftovers from last weekends yard sale at my brothers house, so I decided to venture out at lunch and go to the Salvation Army. I found a couple of items and was getting ready to head to the checkout and I passed a pile of dolls. I looked down and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I found a 1930's Shirley Temple doll for $4.99! I didn't know how much she was worth, but I knew she was old and I love Shirley Temple. I have two other Shirley Temple dolls at home. The 70's Ideal doll with the red polka dot dress that my parents gave me for Christmas one year, and the very first Danbury Mint Shirley Temple doll. According to some information from Ebay, she is very rare. She has her original clothes, socks, and shoes. Her hair needs some work, but there is a doll doctor in Fort Worth that can fix her up. I am still in disbelief and I need to pinch myself to make sure this is real! I missed Rednesday this week, but this makes up for that!

New bedding!

I broke down and purchased new bedding today. I ordered the bedding set below from Country Door. I've been wanting to do a room makeover in my bedroom after being inspired by some of the posts on blogspot. My decorating style is a mixture of shabby, retro, and garden, but I mix it all up and decorate with what appeals to me rather than stick with one style. I was wanting something more luxurious for my bedroom and found this robin's egg blue bedding set. I think it is so pretty and feminine! I also purchased this nice pillow to go with it. I can't wait to get my new bedding and start my bedroom's transformation!

Another Rednesday and another opportunity to show off my favorite color! Below are some items from home. I'll start off with this darling Burrite pitcher. I have several of these pitchers, all in different colors. I found this one at the Antique Alley sale back in April. The lady selling it told me her Mom made Kool-Aid for her in this pitcher when she was a kid. Despite the memories attached to it, she only charged me $3.00. My baby brother, who happens to be an excellent carpenter, made this awesome shelf for me for my birthday. He made it from an old Coca-Cola crate. I love it! I have this large Eat sign hanging up in my diningroom. I found a large wooden spoon and fork set that I painted black, roughed up the edges, and when I can find the time between working, junking, and re-arranging my booth, I'm going to hang them next to this sign. I purchased this Griffith's spice jar set on Ebay when Ebay first started. I don't even remember what I paid for it because it's been that long ago. It was missing one jar and still is. One day I'll remember to look for another jar to complete the set. I bought the lard tin at a yard sale for $2.00, and the large Brach's tin was found in the nasty, dirty garage of an estate sale for $3.00. That's all I got for today. Thrift Store & Yard Sale

I hit the Salvation Army during my lunch hour on Friday and found a few good items. They had all white and blue tag items 1/2 price. I probably could have found more, but I only have an hour for lunch and I had to squeeze in some nourishment too. First up was this adorable 3-part bluebird relish dish. It was $1.99. I love the vintage look of it and I'm going to keep it and sell the one I already have in my next yard sale. I got this flamingo tote bag for $4.99 and it is brand new, never been used. It reminds me of Florida and anyone who knows me knows of my love of Florida beaches. Every time I see a flamingo item I get a little chuckle out of it because it reminds me of when my son was little and he used to call them floppapingo's. This Ireland towel was originally marked .99 cents, and it had a blue tag so I got it for .49 cents. It's going in my booth along with a few other Irish items. My favorite flowers are peonies and lily-of-the-valley. When I lived in Indiana, we always had peonies in our yard. My Grandmother had lily-of-the-valley in her yard, and when I would go and spend the weekend with her in the spring/summer, I would lay in the grass and smell those beautiful delicate flowers. Such good memories! I still have a fondness for those flowers to this day, but you can't really grow either of those here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It's just too hot. I found both of these lily-of-the-valley items on Friday. The picture was $2.99 and it had a blue tag, so it was only $1.49. The love the vintage look of it and the frame looks old too. The cute little plate was only .49 cents. I've been waiting for weeks for this stoneware bowl to be marked 1/2 price. I knew I was taking a chance by waiting, but I just didn't want to pay $6.99. It had a blue tag, and that is actually a good price for a piece of Marshall Pottery (made in Tyler, TX), but I waited. It was still there on Friday, so I snatched it up for a whole $3.49. This wreath was $2.99 and had a white tag on it so I got it for $1.49. It was cute, but I knew I could make a Fourth of July wreath out of it. I just added a few flags and some blue glitter ribbon with little stars and voila! I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. I'm going to put it on my front porch. As for the yard sale reference in my blog header, my whole family and I take a vacation together every summer. This summer we are going to Gatlinburg and staying in a big cabin. Once a year, before our trip, we have a yard sale at my mom's house, at my house, and at my brother's house. We use the money to pay for our gas there and back. This weekend, we had our first yard sale and made $250.00 towards our trip. It's a great way to get rid of our unwanted stuff and finance a fun family vacation. The leftover items are donated to the Goodwill. Everyone benefits!

How I love the color red! You just can't ignore the fiery beauty of this color! Below are some items from home that I wanted to share today. I'll start with this cute smiling apple. So cheerful and I get to see his smiley face every morning. If that don't cheer you up, nothing will! I found this cute BBQ tray about 15 years ago and it was only $1.00 at a yard sale. I love these cute Big Boys. I bought the one on the right new at Frisch's Big Boy in Richmond, Indiana, and the one on the left was found at the Goodwill Outlet in Dayton, Ohio (I still shudder thinking about that place!) for $3.00! I bought this Fiesta pitcher new for $15.00 at the Canton Flea Market a month ago. This plaid picnic basket was found in Centerville, Indiana for $16.00. Normally they are twice that on Ebay, so I snatched it up quick and it is in terrific shape with minimal rust spots. I'm a big quilt lover, and of course when I saw this sign in red I had to have it. I have it on a peg rack with one of my hanging Longaberger baskets. This is a reproduction stool, but I love it just the same. If anything has a vintage vibe to it, it's mine! Canton was the bomb this weekend!

I went to the Canton Flea Market on Saturday with my Mom and brother. It seemed like there were $1.00 tables everywhere, and I took advantage of that. This is me below at Canton with my trusty little shopping cart. Don't laugh, I had my redneck chic look going! It was 95 degrees out and it felt like it, but that did not stop us from finding some great junk! Christmas tablecloth, apple tablecloth, and full apron for $1.00 each! I hit the potholder motherload. I found eleven potholders, all for $1.00 each. Cute plastic salt & pepper shakers. The turquoise shakers were $1.00 and the yellow tulip shakers were $2.00 This rooster plate was $1.00. It looks very french country! Cast iron mermaid. She is medium sized and was $8.00. Cast iron hands. They were $6.00 each. $1.00 each for these beautiful vintage hankies! These green Anchor Hocking vases were $1.00 each. My Mom gave me the cobalt vases on Saturday. The one in the middle and the one on the right are Indiana Glass. The silver basket with cobalt insert was $3.00 I just loved this childs embroidered pillowcase and yellow baby shoe. They were $1.00 each. Black dish with pretty rose was in a $1.00 bin. Ball jar lids. .50 cents each. 1968 Empire Blow-mold Santa. This cute lil' feller was $5.00. Fabric anyone? This lady had tons of fabric, her husband said she had too much and needed to get rid of some of it. $1.00 per yard! Last, but not least were these beautiful metal trays. I nearly choked when the seller quoted the price as $1.00 each.
