Happy Halloween!

I just had to show off the cute Batman pumpkin that my son did for Halloween. Last year I was at the Goodwill and saw a cute set of Batman pumpkin push-ins. The package had never been opened and was $1.29. I thought my son might like it, so I bought the set. I thought at the time that they were plastic, but was pleasantly surprised when I opened up the package a few nights ago and realized that the push-ins are metal. My son is always saying there's never anything good at the Goodwill, despite me finding him several nice Lego sets for nearly nothing. Who says there's nothing good at the Goodwill?

I just had to show off the horseshoes above. A friend of mine from work retired recently and she has been crafting up a storm. I showed her one of my decorating magazines that had an article on how to embellish horseshoes and she made the adorable ones above. Way to go Debbie!

Highway 80 - Off The Road

My Mom, brother and I hit the twice-yearly Highway 80 Sale on Saturday and I found some good items, some for my booth and some for me to keep. This time we passed up some of the stops we normally hit because we know from experience that we never find anything that would be of interest to us. By that I mean antique and vintage items.

I found the red thermos for $1.00. It's the kind with glass inside, so I know it's fairly old. I don't think they make them like that anymore. I got the enamelware pan for $3.00. It's a good sized one, large enough to hold magazines.

These rusty, crusty horseshoes were purchased for .25 cents a piece. They just need a good brushing to remove some of the rust, and then they will be going in the booth.

I got all three of these items, two ornaments and a strand of beads, for .50 cents. Going to use the ornaments to decorate some vintage inspired wreaths to put in my booth for the big Christmas sale.

Two yards of Cranston Christmas fabric for $1.00! I want to make a Christmas quilt someday, so I try and pick up fabric when I find it.

This never used Coca-Cola set, tin and four glasses, was $5.00. I think I can get $12.00 for it in the booth. Coca-Cola items sell very well in our booth.

Gay Fad sugar and creamer set was $2.00 for both.

This cute oilcloth lunch sack was only .50 cents. It's in great condition. I just love the vibrant colors of oilcloth!

I like to pick up mis-matched jewelry when I can find it really cheap. You never know when you are going to need a jeweled embellishment for a craft project. I got all four of these pieces for $1.00

This apron and the next two items were from an estate sale that we found along the way. Everything was 50% off on Saturday. I got the apron for $3.00 which is pretty good considering that it is a full one. These are harder to find than the half aprons.

Another find at the estate sale. I usually see these glass doorknobs for $12-$15, so I was happy to find this one for $5.00.

I'm a jadeite collector who has over 200 pieces in my collection. I started collecting it back when it was really cheap. Some pieces are not as easy to find, and this is one of them. This refridgerator dish was marked $50 at the estate sale, but everything was half price, so I couln't pass it up for $25. I didn't have one of these in my collection, so I bit the bullet and bought it. I do not have one iota of buyers regret!

Earlier in the week I hit the Salvation Army and found a few things. I got this red wood bucket for $7.00. I think it will look great in the booth at Christmastime filled with Shiny Brite ornaments.

This antique galvanized fire bucket was $12.00 at the SA. I checked Ebay and there is one similar, but not in as good condition for $75.00! Normally I won't pay that much for something, but my woman's intuition told me to buy it and I'm glad I did. It's in really great shape and the lettering on it is clear.

I have been looking for quite a while for a nice stool to go with my antique dressing table. I finally found this one at the SA and it was $17.00. It is really, really nice and is perfect for my dressing table.

I saved the best item for last, and this was found at the Hwy 80 sale. This quilt top is made from vintage flour sack fabric. I fell in love with this the minute I saw it. I asked the seller how much she wanted and she said "I would like to get $40, but I'll take $30". I turned on the charm and said "I was really hoping for $20". She paused for a minute and said "Oh, why not, I'm never going to do anything with it". I was so happy that I hugged that quilt top and told the lady that I intended on finishing it and using it in my home. That's Noodle's butt in the bottom of the photo. When I spread it out on the floor, my two dogs would not stay off of it. I had to get my son to help me shoo them off of it so I could take the picture. Little rascals!

I've Fallen Off, But Now I'm Back

I've fallen off of the blogging scene lately. Not because I haven't been junking. Oh yes, I'm still junking and finding some good stuff, but I've been fighting bronchitis and a sinus infection, and that has depleted me of energy. Energy to set my items up, take the pictures and post them. Now I'm on the upswing of feeling exhausted. It's a good thing because the Highway 80 Sale is this weekend! Woo Hoo! This is a twice yearly sale where we drive Highway 80, stopping at yard sales, thrift stores, rummage sales. Some whole towns get involved and rent spaces on the main road for vendors to set up and sell their junk (treasures). I am looking forward to it because we always come back with a trunkload of goodies. Meanwhile, I made a trip to the World Market store and found a couple of cute vintage inspired items. Below are two items I found. They had a couple other items that I wanted, so I'm gonna have to go back and get those.

I absolutely love these snowmen! They are covered in glitter and have the cutest faces. That's all I have for today ladies, but I'll be posting my finds from the Highway 80 Sale, so stay tuned!

On A Reading Binge

I love spending time curled up with decorating magazines and books on a cool autumn day. This week I purchased five magazines and two books, Romantic Homes, Romantic Country, Country French, Christmas Cottage, and Vintage Style. The books are The Farm Chicks Christmas, and The Kitchen Linens Book. I'm loving all the great inspiring photos in these publications. I wish it was closer to Christmas, I'm ready to do some holiday decorating!
